Tomorrow morning the U.S. Senate committee that focuses on education will be voting on the nomination of Betsy DeVos to be U.S. Secretary of Education. If you would like to weigh in with the committee before the vote, details on how to do so are here.
If the committee approves her nomination, which is expected given the Republican majority, she will advance to the full Senate for a vote (likely next week). If either the committee or the full Senate choose not to approve her, however, the President will need to nominate someone else for this role.
Teach Plus has signed two letters to the Senate about her confirmation. They can be found here and here. We also solicited questions from teachers across country, available here, and shared them with Senators in advance of her confirmation hearing. Many of the same ideas put forth by our teachers were asked by Senators. You can hear her answers using this recording of the hearing.
From all of us at Teach Plus, thank you for everything you are doing for your students every day.
All the best,
Alice Johnson Cain
Executive Vice President of Policy and Partnerships
