Conference Spotlight

Teach Plus, along with our partner, Harmony Public Schools, presented at the 2019 National Charter Schools Conference at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, on June 30-July 3. During the session, participants will develop a plan that highlights teacher leadership as an essential ingredient in addressing their schools’ needs.

Teach Plus joined the nation's top educators at the 2019 National Teacher Leadership Conference: A Radical Imagination for the Future, hosted by the National Network of State Teachers of the Year (NNSTOY). Our two panels addressed how Teach Plus and Teach Plus teacher leaders are shaping state-level education policy, and how we're leveraging teacher leadership to develop solutions to schools' unique problems of practice. Teach Plus also co-hosted a communications institute with Education Post on effective op-ed writing and blogging.

Teach Plus CEO Roberto Rodríguez and Maryland Fellowship alumna Sheena Washington discussed the transformational power of teacher leadership as part of a Congressional panel hosted by the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET).

"Through Teach Plus I learned about advocacy with teachers as experts and how to use my voice. The Teach Plus fellowship was the catalyst for my leadership."  –  Sheena Washington

Illinois Teaching Policy Fellows Corey Winchester, Elissa Rabin, Violeta Cerna-Prado, Keisha Rembert, and Elizabeth Ojeda-Jimenez, all authors of the brief Equity and Diversity by Design: Recommendations on Recruiting and Retaining Teachers of Color in Illinois, presented their recommendations about what can be done to attract, retain, and develop teachers of color in Illinois at the Illinois Education Association Representative Assembly.
