INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 20, 2016)– Google stopped in Indianapolis on Wednesday to give some students a virtual tour of popular destinations from around the world.
Second through eighth graders at Paramount School of Excellence took part in the Google Expeditions program.
The children simply held up their Google goggles and got to check out the Roman ruins, the ocean, and even the Great Wall of China.
With 95 percent of the students coming from low-income families on the near east side, school leaders said this tool was a way for students to experience places they may never have imagined seeing before. It also allowed them an opportunity to strengthen their writing skills.
“When our students experience these things in multimedia ways, in ways that are off the page, that really develops a personal relationship with these experiences and that prior knowledge, that background knowledge is a huge strength,” said teacher Jill Armington.
The day-long Google visit to Indianapolis is part of a worldwide 15-city tour.
