Senior Fellow Perla Andrade (who also serves on the Teach Plus National Advisory Board) visited Washington DC with Teach Plus teacher leaders from around the country to speak with congressional staffers about teacher shortages, teacher diversity, and the Teachers LEAD Act.
This summer, Teach Plus Arkansas partnered with Stand For Children and Learn From History to offer members of the Teach Plus Arkansas Network an opportunity to screen the documentary “Civil War: Or, Who Do We Think We Are” and participate in a conversation about slavery, racism, privilege, responsibility and the importance of teaching accurate history and hard truths to our children.
Several of our Teach Plus Arkansas Fellows are active participants in the Arkansas Education Policy Initiative. In addition to their own advocacy projects, they are working on teacher retention, preparation, and policy issues with various education leaders from across the state.
For the culminating event of our inaugural fellowship, the Policy Fellows got together for an End of the Year Kickback, where they celebrated their accomplishments and each other. Congratulations to Chase Fresneda, Holly Howard, Cara Maxwell, and Jessica Nadzam on being voted as the Most Valuable Fellows for each of their respective advocacy groups.
Endings represent opportunities for new beginnings. As we close the door to the inaugural cohort, we are excited about opening another for Cohort #2. Twenty dynamic educators from across the state have been selected to begin the 2022-2023 Policy Fellowship. Stay tuned for more information about who they are and the great things we anticipate they will accomplish!
Be on the lookout for our “Beyond the Classroom” beginning later this fall.
