I believe every student can learn and every student learns in different ways. The key to great teaching is autonomous learning which allows students choice about what, when and how to learn.

Mary Jane Guthrie is a 2018-19 Teach Plus Commonwealth Teaching Policy Fellow. Mary Jane teaches 5th grade at the Phineas Bates Elementary School in Boston, Massachusetts. She has previously traveled to Finland and Estonia with a  group of Boston Public School educators on a professional development opportunity.  Mary Jane earned a BS in Psychology and minor in Education, and an MA in the Art of Teaching from Clark University with a BS in Psychology and minor in Education. She was awarded a tuition-free Masters in the Art of Teaching from the same university due to academic excellence.
