Netanya Even
Teaching Policy Fellow
Uplift Williams Preparatory

Netanya Even is a 2021-2022 Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow who instructs IB English Language A: Language and Literature at Uplift Williams Preparatory in Dallas. Netanya serves as the 11th grade lead, a role in which she led an initiative recognized by ACT as a model of excellence for low socioeconomic high schools. Throughout her career, Netanya has taught Spanish and won various awards, including Teacher of the Year and Uplift Education Top Hat. She received her MA and PhD in Spanish Literature and an MA in Educational Leadership and Texas principal certification from the University of Wisconsin Madison.

Ketra Fitzgerald is a 2021-2022 Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow who teaches 1st grade at West Orange Stark Elementary School in Orange, Texas. She previously taught 1st and 2nd grade and also served as grade level chairperson and Literacy Coach with Spring ISD in Spring, Texas. She graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with a BS in Psychology and received her MS in Curriculum & Instruction from McDaniel College.

Scott Frank is a 2021-2022 Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow who teaches IB History of the Americas and AP Psychology at IDEA Frontier College Preparatory in Brownsville, Texas. Scott sponsors his campus’s Model United Nations and UIL Social Studies clubs. He is a distinguished Master Teacher at IDEA Public schools and is committed to bringing quality education to all students. Prior to teaching in Texas, Scott taught abroad in Kosovo and Germany. Scott received his BA in History and Secondary Education from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.

Adriane is a 2021-2022 Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow who teaches 9th grade English Language Arts and English as a Second Language at Legacy Freshman High School in Midland, Texas. She is a member of the campus Achieve3000 leadership team and has previously served on the Campus Educational Improvement Committee and Performance-Based Monitoring Analysis System District Leadership Team. She was a 2019-2020 Fulbright Teacher for Global Classrooms and is National Board Certified in English as a New Language/Early and Middle Childhood. She graduated from Stony Brook University (SUNY Stony Brook) with a BA in linguistics and received her MA in English language from Chonnam National University in South Korea.

Claire Halquist is a 2021-2022 Teach Plus Texas Senior Policy Fellow who teaches 7th Grade Math and Pre-AP Math at Dr. Billy Earl Dade Middle School in Dallas where she also serves as the Gifted & Talented/Pre-AP Coordinator. She came to education through Teach for America after earning a BBA in Accounting and in Economics with Financial Applications from Southern Methodist University, as well as an MEd with a specialization in Urban Education.

Uplift Luna Middle School

Jake Hamilton is a 2021-2022 Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow who teaches 6th grade English Language Arts at Uplift Luna Middle School, where he has also been the 7th grade ELA teacher, team lead, and a functional skills teacher in a self-contained, special education classroom. Jake is recognized as a TIA exemplary teacher, was selected as ULMS’s teacher of the year, and was part of the team that received the district’s highest award for exemplary student growth and proficiency across all subjects. Jake graduated from Samford University with a BA in English, received his MAT in special education from Marian University, and his EdD in educational leadership from Dallas Baptist University.

Byron Hannah is a 2021-2022 Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow who teaches Algebra I at Yes Prep Southside in Houston. Byron is in his fourth year of teaching and also serves as a grade level chair and the Mathematics Instructional Coach and Curriculum/Assessment Coordinator for Breakthrough Houston. Byron is a Teach for America alumnus. Hannah has a published Op-Ed with Defender Network of Houston, titled “School closures more than missing instruction.” He is a proud alumnus of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where he obtained a BS in Pure Mathematics and Columbia University, where he obtained a MA in Educational Leadership.

Ryan Higgins is a 2021-2022 Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow who teaches 9th Grade World Geography at Central Junior High in Fort Worth, Texas. In addition to teaching, Ryan serves as the head freshman basketball coach, an assistant football and track coach, and a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve where he is a Civil Affairs Officer and Team Leader. Ryan has served as a teacher and coach at several schools, teaching Economics, U.S. History, and Government. He graduated from Texas Christian University with a BA in History, received his MEd from University of Texas-Arlington, and is currently pursuing his EdD in Educational Leadership and Management from Drexel University.

Monica Hill is a 2021-2022 Teach Plus Texas Houston ISD Policy Fellow who teaches high school science and serves as the middle and high school science department chair at Secondary Disciplinary Alternative Education Program Campus in Houston. Monica previously taught 5th grade math and science and 8th grade science. She has also served as a data tracking and assessment specialist, campus-based mentor, effective practices specialist, and problem-solving communities’ facilitator at Secondary DAEP as part of Houston ISD’s Career Pathways Teacher Leader Program. Monica was recognized as 2019-2020 Teacher of Year at Secondary DAEP. She graduated from the University of Phoenix with a BS in Business Management and an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction.

Jana Hughey is a 2021-2022 Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow who teaches 4th-grade math, science, and coaches other teachers in the delivery of mathematics at Roy Roberts Elementary School in Lubbock, Texas. Jana is a Designated Master Teacher who also serves as the Mathematics Campus Academic Leader for her campus and was previously named teacher of the year for her campus. Jana has reviewed for SAFAL partners and edited textbooks for HMH. Jana holds certifications for Early Childhood Education, Elementary Self-Contained, and ESL. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a BS in Family Studies with an Early Childhood Endorsement.
