Teacher preparation, development, and leadership

We are shaping the system to position teachers for success.

Because so many students—especially low-income students and students of color—have brand-new teachers, Teach Plus teacher leaders recognize that one of the most important things we can do for educational equity is ensure that new teachers are well-prepared and positioned for success as they enter the classroom. Teach Plus teacher leaders are also working across schools and systems to improve professional learning, maintain a high bar for educator preparation programs and for teacher licensure, and develop and nurture opportunities for teacher leadership.

I see three key challenges for new teachers: the lack of practice with ‘real life’ lesson planning; an absence of understanding of assessment; and an unpreparedness for dealing with the social-emotional landscape of the public school classroom.
