Deborah Whitt

Deborah Whitt is a 2019-20 Teach Plus Nevada Policy Fellow. Deborah is the English department chair at Spring Valley High School and teaches all levels of English and the theory of knowledge classes for the school’s IB Magnet program. She is a student council class advisor and on the Advanced Ed and IB accreditation teams for her school. She serves on the Nevada DOE State Superintendents’ Teacher Advisory Cabinet. Twice a recipient of National Senatorial Recognitions for excellence and innovation in education, she also holds the Distinguished Star Award from CCSD and the CCEA Equity and Diversity Award and has been a Heart of Education award finalist for the past three years. A ten-year Teacher Consultant for the Southern Nevada Writing Project and CFG ™ Coach, Deborah has recorded stories of Las Vegas-based Holocaust survivors for archive at UNLV and co-created The Always Remember Institute, an initiative for teaching literature of the Holocaust. She has presented at the NCTE and SNEL conferences and is a graduate of the Southern Nevada Public Education Foundation’s Teacher Leadership Academy. Deborah holds a BA in both Philosophy and English from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
