James Johnson is a 2026-2027 Teach Plus Michigan Policy Fellow and psychology, Advanced Placement (AP) psychology, and AP U.S. history teacher at Loy Norrix High School in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He serves as the social studies department head and a mentor for new teachers. James previously served as an Americorps member with City Year Detroit, tutoring and mentoring students at Cody High School. He was named a Regional Teacher of the Year and a finalist for Michigan Teacher of the Year (2021-2022), served on the Michigan Teacher Leadership Advisory Council, and is on the Kalamazoo Historic District Commission. James earned a BA in psychology and MA in secondary education from the University of Michigan.
