Liz Halfhill joins Teach Plus as the Literacy Leadership Coach in Pittsburgh, PA. As a part of Pennsylvania’s Literacy Forward Network, Liz will have the pleasure of providing coaching to several district teacher leaders who are implementing structured literacy and the science of reading in their classrooms. She will also work side-by-side with these leaders to bring their new knowledge to the rest of their colleagues through the use of professional learning communities
Prior to joining Teach Plus, Liz was a classroom teacher and instructional coach at Community Day School. She brings 20 years of school experience, a wealth of knowledge not only in literacy and classroom management, but also in coaching teachers to deliver their best teaching across all instructional areas. Liz was first trained in Orton-Gillingham in 2015 and successfully brought structured literacy to her colleagues thereafter. She also has extensive training in the teaching of writing from Teachers College, Columbia University, and in Responsive Classroom.
Liz holds a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Ball State University and a M.Ed with reading specialist certificate from the University of Pittsburgh. Liz lives in the North Hills of Pittsburgh with her husband and two children.
