D Thompson joins Teach Plus as the Texas Policy Manager, managing state policy strategy and empowering teachers to have an impact on critical policy issues in the Lone Star State and beyond through the Texas Policy Fellowship.
Prior to joining Teach Plus, D was the Director of Strategic Partnerships for E3 Alliance, a Central Texas collective impact organization focused on transforming education systems. D previously managed Leadership for Educational Equity’s elected leadership pipeline for Texas, coaching current and former teachers to run for elected office. His career in education began in rural North Carolina, where he fell in love teaching high school math at Southeast Halifax High School. Afterward, D came back to Texas to become a founding administrator and teacher of a new high school in his hometown, KIPP Austin Collegiate. In addition to his time in education, he spent two years as the Director of Wine Education for William Chris Vineyards, a world-class winery in the Texas Hill Country, and served 5 years as a pastor at the Austin Stone Community Church. He is passionate about equipping and empowering teacher leaders to drive change, planning international culinary adventures, and hosting events to explore wine in community.
D holds a B.B.A. in Management from Texas A&M University, a Level 3 Award in Wine & Level 1 Award in Sake from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust, and 27 gold stars from Deepwood Elementary School.
