INDIANAPOLIS, IN —Teach Plus, a national nonprofit that empowers teachers to lead improvements in education policy and practice, has announced that Rachel Hathaway has been named Executive Director of Teach Plus Indiana. In this role, Hathaway will lead Teach Plus’ policy, practice, and teacher leadership work in the state, including the flagship Teach Plus Indiana Teaching Policy Fellowship which engages teachers from around the state to work on issues such as teacher retention, preparation, leadership, equity in school discipline, and more. Hathaway was previously Teach Plus Indiana’s Interim Executive Director.

She understands the critical issues that impact equity and student success, and how to work with Indiana’s teachers to improve opportunities and outcomes for students. Teach Plus looks forward to growing the teacher leadership movement in Indiana with Rachel at the helm,” said Teach Plus President and CEO Roberto J. Rodríguez.

I’m excited to continue to grow this work in order to strengthen education policy with teacher-informed solutions and to improve equitable educational outcomes for all of our students,” said Hathaway.
Hathaway joined Teach Plus in 2014. During her tenure with the organization, she has successfully led the Teach Plus Fellows’ efforts to help secure $1 million in support of a teacher residency pilot and $3.5 million in support of teacher career ladder. Prior to joining Teach Plus, Hathaway served as an AmeriCorps VISTA Fellow in the Indianapolis Mayor’s Office of Education Innovation, where she helped engage Indianapolis students in STEM programming through the implementation of the City of Indianapolis VEX Robotics Championship. Prior to that, she managed the coordination of the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Non-profit Expo helping to connect Indy non-profits with volunteers, interns, and potential employees from the community. Hathaway holds a Bachelors in Public Affairs from IUPUI.
