Teach Plus National Teacher Policy Cabinet

National Teacher Policy Cabinet logo

The National Teacher Policy Cabinet offers a fulfilling paid fellowship for current classroom teachers to gain high-level policy skills far beyond conventional advocacy. Cabinet members learn how to lead and create tangible policy opportunities, including how to read complex legislative texts, collaborate directly with Members of Congress and their staff, ideate policy ideas, and strategize real-world change. This impactful work is inherently demanding: we operate on the Congressional calendar, meaning the commitment is rigorous and often extends outside the traditional school day and year. This schedule requires substantial flexibility, given the constantly evolving dynamics and developments of Congress and D.C. at large. The National Teacher Policy Cabinet enables teachers to become leaders who drive systemic change; these experiences are often career-defining.

From our teachers

”After 14 years in the classroom and nearly a decade of working on efforts to retain excellent educators, I'm excited to keep building on what's worked and scaling those successes at the federal level. I care deeply about making sure policy actually works for the people it affects most–students and teachers–and that is why I am looking forward to Teach Plus's continued collaboration and partnership with Congress.”

“Being a part of the NTPC has changed my teaching practice inside and outside of the classroom. I have gained the knowledge and confidence to bring teacher and student voices into high level policy discussions, and I use the Cabinet’s work as an example to empower my students and colleagues to advocate for important issues at the district level and beyond.”
