National Policy & Advocacy Network
Teach Plus believes that when outstanding teachers advocate for equity, educators and students thrive.
The National Policy & Advocacy Network is a nonpartisan network of teachers to inform important decisions at the federal, state, and local levels―and to build a teacher leadership movement for educational equity.
Policy & Advocacy Network members gain access to Teach Plus training and learning sessions, inform policymakers, and engage in federal advocacy to increase equitable opportunities for students.
Qualifications
In order to participate in the National Policy & Advocacy Network, you must be:
- A current K12 public school teacher or an early childhood educator who is dedicated to educational equity
- Willing to participate in at least three Teach Plus activities per year such as: taking a survey, calling or emailing your member of Congress, participating in a social media campaign, and/or attending a Teach Plus webinar, meeting, or training
How does it work?
As a member of the National Policy & Advocacy Network, you will join teachers from across the country to advocate for teacher-driven solutions that advance educational equity. You will become part of a larger movement of teacher leadership and help share your expertise with policymakers and mobilize your peers around top issues impacting students and the teaching profession. All advocacy will be teacher-driven and nonpartisan, and all activities are optional. There is no cost to participate.
As a Network member, you will have the opportunity to:
- Attend high quality virtual training events on understanding educational policy and teacher leadership
- Talk with education decision makers, including legislators, staff from the U.S. Department of Education, and leading equity advocates
- Stay up-to-date on research, recommendations, and advocacy work led by Teach Plus teacher leaders across the country. (See the teacher-led Teach Plus Federal Policy Agenda.)
- Stay updated on education legislation being considered by Congress
- Learn about teacher leadership opportunities, grants, and awards
As a member of the Network, you will receive:
- A bimonthly newsletter full of leadership opportunities, teaching awards, and policy updates
- Optional bimonthly online trainings to build your skills as a teacher equity advocate and learn about key policy issues that affect you and your students
- Invitations to inform policy decisions in Congress and the U.S. Department of Education
All Teach Plus Network trainings and activities are optional, and they are all free. If you live in a state where Teach Plus has a local presence, you will also receive opportunities to learn and advocate for change at the state and local levels.
The National Teacher Policy Cabinet
The Teach Plus National Teacher Policy Cabinet is a federal policy fellowship for current classroom teachers to develop their policy skills and partner with the federal government on issues to promote student achievement and teacher leadership development.
