Elizabeth Maxcey is a 2026 Teach Plus National Teacher Policy Cabinet Member and high school special education teacher at Biloxi High School in Biloxi, Mississippi. She is passionate about closing achievement gaps for students with disabilities while strengthening college and career readiness so all students are prepared for success after high school.

In addition to her classroom role, Elizabeth has participated on a special education audit team to identify disparities in compliance and improve systems that support students with disabilities. She also serves as the inaugural teacher for Biloxi High School’s Bridge to Careers program, a career-based portfolio graduation pathway, and has contributed to a statewide task force focused on identifying gaps in education for English learners and special education students. Elizabeth is also a member of the 2025-2026 Teach Plus Mississippi Policy Fellowship cohort.

Elizabeth was recognized as Teacher of the Term in October 2023 and was identified as a “Trusted Adult” through the SAVE Promise Club and Sandy Hook Promise. She began her teaching career as an elementary music teacher and has since taught middle school science, social studies, and special education, high school special education, and the Bridge to Careers pathway. Outside of school, she also teaches piano lessons.

Elizabeth earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and her Master’s degree in Secondary Education from William Carey University. She later earned a Specialist of Education degree from the University of the Cumberlands.
