Washington, D.C., October 6, 2025—Teach Plus, a national non-profit that empowers teachers to lead student-centered improvements in policy and practice, announced today that Ramón Carranza, Jr. has been appointed as its new Vice President of Federal Policy. In this role, Ramón will lead the organization’s efforts to shape and advocate for federal policies that support and elevate the teaching profession.
“Ramón brings a wealth of experience and perspective to Teach Plus, having served our country’s education system at the highest levels. As a first-generation college student who started his career as a teacher in his hometown, Ramón is grounded in and guided by the experience of students, teachers, and his community. As Teach Plus expands its work in the federal policy sector in partnership with our teachers, we are excited to welcome him as our new Vice President of Federal Policy,” said Teach Plus CEO Kira Orange Jones.

Ramón brings a deep track record and experience in shaping education policy and advocacy to Teach Plus. Prior to joining the organization, he served under the Biden-Harris Administration as the Deputy Chief of Staff to Deputy Secretary Cindy Marten at the U.S. Department of Education and later as Director of Legislative Affairs for Higher Education. Prior to this, he served as the legislative assistant on education and labor to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and worked on K-12 policy for the House Committee on Education and Labor under Chairman Bobby Scott (D-VA). He has also advanced equitable education initiatives in advocacy roles in Boston and New York City.
Ramón began his career in education as a 7th grade science teacher in his hometown of Phoenix, co-founding a youth leadership program that mentored junior high students into selective high schools. A first-generation college graduate, he holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Gonzaga University and a master’s degree in sociology and education policy from Teachers College, Columbia University.
