Teach Plus Massachusetts Applauds Boston School Committee for Selecting Mary Skipper as Next BPS Superintendent

June 30, 2022, Boston, MA—Teach Plus Massachusetts today issued the following statement following the selection of Mary Skipper as the next Boston Public Schools superintendent.

“Teach Plus and Teach Plus teacher leaders commend the Boston School Committee for its selection of Mary Skipper as the next superintendent of Boston Public Schools. Teach Plus teacher leaders have had the opportunity to work with Mary Skipper in her previous roles as headmaster and network superintendent and have always been impressed with her commitment to equity and with putting students at the center of all decisions.

“At a pivotal moment for Boston Public Schools, I am confident that Mary will lead the district toward continuous improvement and innovation. Mary has consistently proven that she understands exactly what it takes to improve outcomes for Boston’s children while ensuring that the teachers have the proper supports in place to be successful,” said Chris Marino, Teach Plus Massachusetts Executive Director. “Teach Plus teachers are looking forward to engaging with Superintendent Skipper as she sets her priorities and goals for Boston’s students, teachers, and the community.”

“I’m excited about the selection of Mary Skipper as our next superintendent. I look forward to supporting her as she sharpens her focus on making education in the district student and family-centered, on creating equitable experiences for students and teachers across the district, and on taking teachers’ insight into consideration when making decision that directly affect our classrooms and the students we teach,” said Francis Pina, Charleston High School math teacher and Teach Plus Policy Fellow who sat on the educator and school leader panel as part of the superintendent selection community sessions and public interviews.
