Washington, D.C. —Teach Plus, a national non-profit that empowers teachers to lead improvements in policy and practice, has announced that Alex Bybee has joined the organization as State Director in Nevada. Bybee will lead Teach Plus’ policy and teacher leadership work in the state, and will oversee the Teach Plus Nevada Teaching Policy Fellowship program. He was previously Senior Director of Development and Community Relations at The Public Education Foundation in Clark County. Teach Plus launched its inaugural Policy Fellowship in Nevada in 2017.
“Alex understands the critical issues facing Nevada’s teachers and learners. We’re thrilled to welcome Alex to Teach Plus and we look forward to growing the teacher leadership movement in the state with him at the helm,” said Roberto J. Rodríguez, Teach Plus President and CEO.
“It’s an honor to lead the work of Teach Plus Nevada alongside our Policy Fellows to amplify teacher voice, scale up the impact of promising practices, and strive towards equity for all of Nevada’s students,” said Bybee. “From the classroom to Carson City, teacher leaders make a real difference in the lives of students, their communities and our state.”
At The Public Education Foundation, Bybee worked closely with the CEO to lead the Foundation’s annual fundraising events, major donor portfolio, and strategic community partnerships. Previously, he managed the Save Our Schools campaign, which led to passage of a ballot initiative that provided a permanent funding stream for the construction and repair of Washoe County schools. Bybee volunteers as a mentor and counselor for the Nevada Youth Legislature, Nevada Association of Student Councils, and the American Legion Nevada Boys State, all programs for which he is an alum. He serves on the boards of The Nevada Youth Legislature Foundation, Public Service Institute of Nevada, the Las Vegas Chapter of the Human Rights Campaign and Nevada’s Big Give. Bybee earned a BA in political science from the University of Nevada.
