Washington, D.C—Teach Plus, a national nonprofit that empowers teachers to lead improvements in education policy and practice, has announced that Chris Marino has been named Executive Director of Teach Plus Massachusetts. In this role, Marino will lead Teach Plus’ policy and teacher leadership work in the state, including the flagship Teach Plus Massachusetts Teaching Policy Fellowship which engages educators from across the Commonwealth to work on issues such as diversifying the teaching workforce, equitable school funding, early education advocacy, and more. Marino was previously Policy Manager at Teach Plus Massachusetts.
“Chris is an outstanding leader. He understands the issues that impact equity and student success in Massachusetts, and how to work with the state’s educators, including our many alumni, to improve opportunities and outcomes for students. We look forward to growing the teacher leadership movement in the Commonwealth with Chris at the helm,” said Teach Plus President and CEO Roberto J. Rodríguez.
“Teach Plus was founded in Massachusetts and I couldn’t be prouder of our legacy in the state. Over the past 12 years, our 3,000-strong network of educators and leaders have shaped key education policies and practices across the Commonwealth. Their advocacy has made a real difference toward building and supporting a stronger teaching profession in Massachusetts, improving our lowest-performing schools and building teacher leadership in classrooms, and advancing adequate and equitable funding for public education. I’m excited to continue to grow our work in Massachusetts in order to strengthen education policy in the state with teacher-informed solutions,” said Marino.
Marino joined Teach Plus in 2017. During his tenure with the organization, he has led Teach Plus Massachusetts’ work on issues including educator preparation, teacher evaluation, the adoption of high quality standards and assessments, and student social emotional learning, to name a few. With his support, Teach Plus Massachusetts has served as a convener of educators and policy makers and has developed networks of practitioners across the Commonwealth. Prior to joining Teach Plus, Marino was the director of leadership strategy with the Boston Public Schools and before that, he spent 15 years with the Greece Central School District located outside of Rochester, New York, where he served in many diverse roles. Chris started his career as an elementary classroom educator in the Greece Central School District, where he was named the Golden Apple Teacher of the Year.
