Las Vegas, NV, August 20, 2026—Teach Plus today announced that Dr. David Fossett has been named Executive Director of Teach Plus Nevada. Dr. Fossett will lead the organization’s statewide strategy, working with educators, community partners, and state policy leaders to strengthen teacher leadership and voice in the state and advance policies that improve the opportunities and outcomes for Nevada’s students. He was previously Principal of Somerset Academy Stephanie Campus.
“To build an education system where every student can thrive, we need leaders who understand the critical issues facing Nevada’s teachers and learners. David Fossett has spent his career as a teacher and school leader, proving what’s possible when we prioritize student outcomes and partner deeply with educators and communities to improve them. I’m thrilled to welcome him to Teach Plus, and confident that under his leadership, Nevada’s teachers will have a real seat at the table in shaping the decisions that affect their students,” said Kira Orange Jones, Teach Plus CEO.
“As a career educator, including over five years as a principal, I kept running into the same wall: the biggest thing holding back real school improvement wasn’t inside my building, it was policy. So I started reaching out to policymakers, and the more involved I got, the more I understood how directly that work connects to growing opportunities for students. I couldn’t be more excited to join Teach Plus and help move Nevada’s education system forward through strategic policy priorities and teacher-led advocacy,” said Dr. Fossett.
As Principal of Somerset Academy Stephanie Campus, Dr. Fossett led the Title I school to a perfect performance score, transforming it from a two-star to the top-ranked five-star school in Nevada, an achievement recognized with formal proclamations from both the Nevada State Senate and State Assembly. He began his career as a Teach For America corps member and high school math teacher in the Clark County School District, later serving as an assistant principal in rural Nevada and in public charter schools. Beyond site leadership, he has taught education courses at UNLV and served on Cognia international accreditation teams, as well as in the Nevada State Superintendent’s Principal Advisory Cabinet. Dr. Fossett holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California, master’s degrees from UNLV and the University of South Dakota, and a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. He starts in his role at Teach Plus on September 1, 2026.
