Washington, D.C.—Teach Plus, a national nonprofit that empowers teachers to lead improvements in education policy and practice, has named Stacey McAdoo State Director of Teach Plus Arkansas. McAdoo, the 2019 Arkansas Teacher of the Year and member of Teach Plus’ inaugural Arkansas Teacher Policy Advisory Board, will lead the organization’s policy and teacher leadership work in the state including launching the first cohort of Teach Plus Arkansas Policy Fellows this August.
“Stacey is an outstanding leader who brings a deep commitment to elevating and empowering teachers to make change on behalf of Arkansas’ students. She understands the critical issues that impact equity and student success and how to work with educators to improve opportunities and outcomes for all learners,” said Teach Plus President and CEO, Roberto J. Rodríguez.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join Teach Plus and to work with teachers from across our state in advocating for systemic changes that directly improve the lives of their students,” McAdoo said. “By elevating teacher voice, building relationships, and engaging with our communities, I hope to raise awareness of the critical issues classroom practitioners and students face and to bring forth teacher-informed solutions.”
Prior to joining Teach Plus, McAdoo spent 19 years in the Little Rock School District as a classroom teacher, an AVID (college and career readiness) coordinator, and the lead novice mentor teacher for the district. As a professional development facilitator, McAdoo has designed and led sessions on best practices, instructional strategies, empowering student and teacher voice, and promoting equity and the success of diverse learners.
McAdoo is the founder of The Writeous Poets (a spoken word and youth advocacy collective), an appointed board member of the Central Arkansas Library System, a member of the National Arts in Education Advisory Council, a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa (a professional organization of women in the field of education), and has sat on the Arkansas State Board of Education.
