Alison Hurney is a Teach Plus Commonwealth Teaching Policy Fellow and an 8th grade English Language Arts and social studies teacher at the John J. Doran Community School in the district of Fall River. She began teaching after completing a year of service at the André House of Arizona, a non-profit dedicated to providing the basic necessities for the homeless and economically disadvantaged population of Phoenix. Alison is certified in English Language Arts 5-12 and spent three years teaching at Notre Dame Cristo Rey, a high school that enrolls low-income students and provides work study opportunities in Lawrence, Massachusetts. She has participated in a fellowship through the district of Fall River to research the successes and obstacles of bilingual schools in the state of Massachusetts. Alison earned a BA in English Communications and an MAT from Emmanuel College.
