Angela Burley is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Senior Writing Fellow who teaches 6th grade world cultures at Dr. Frederick Douglass Todd Sr. Middle School in Dallas, TX, where she is also the 6th-grade Department Chair and Social Studies Lead. Angela is a Teach Plus Texas Senior Policy Fellowship alumna and a Texas Master Teacher. She was named 2022-2023 Dallas Independent School District Secondary Teacher. Angela’s educational philosophy centers on “education as a practice of freedom” for both the educator and the learner. She strives to facilitate an academic culture that is experiential, culturally responsive, and rooted in a pedagogy of joy. Angela graduated from the University of North Texas with a BA in Psychology and earned her MEd in Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum with an emphasis in Social Studies from the University of Missouri. Angela’s work has appeared in What’s the Plus and the Dallas Examiner.
