Anne Yi teaches 8th grade physical science and chairs the science department at Southeast Middle School (SEMS) in South Gate, California. Anne has served as a marathon coach and peer-tutoring lead teacher at SEMS, in order to guide low-achieving and at-risk students toward realizing their academic and developmental potential. In her work, Anne draws from her experience in Project-Based Learning through UCLA’s Teacher-Initiated Inquiry Project grant program and in evaluating Common Core ELA in Science initiatives through The National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing (CRESST). She aspires to equip pre-service science teachers with solid instructional practice and know-how in making science palatable and interesting to students of all ages. Anne earned her BS and MEd in physiological science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and is currently working towards her EdM in educational leadership at Columbia University.
