Matthew Balter is a 2023-24 Teach Plus Texas Senior Policy Fellow. Matthew teaches 6th- 8th grade Creative Writing and Speech & Debate at Gorzycki Middle School in Austin, Texas. He focuses on teaching children how to write and verbally express ideas in both creative and logical ways, how to form fact-based arguments, and how to see things through multiple perspectives. For four years, Matthew has been a mentor teacher, training those new to the teaching profession. Matthew was named Austin Achieve’s Teacher of the Year (2016-2017). He earned his BA in Political Science from Dickinson College, Pennsylvania, and an MFA in Creative Writing from University of San Francisco, California.
