Bernadine Lormilus

For the first year, Bernadine will be teaching 5th grade at the Channing Elementary School in Hyde Park, MA. Prior to that, she was an ELL and second grade teacher at the John F. Kennedy School in Jamaica Plain, MA. While at the John F. Kennedy School, Bernadine analyzed data and implemented intervention strategies to support the reading skills of her students. She has over 7 years teaching in private, sub-urban and urban school districts. Her experiences working with diverse student populations have helped to shape her philosophy about education. Bernadine believes that all children can learn and succeed when given the right tools and experiences. In addition to teaching her students, Bernadine is passionate about planning and collaborating with her colleagues. Recently, she completed the Boston Teacher Union Fellow Program, where she worked alongside a cohort of teachers from across the district. She planned and presented an action research project entitled �Cultural Responsive Teaching and Learning for All Students.� Bernadine earned a B.A. in English from Regis College and an M.S. degree in Urban Education from Wheelock College. Her long-term goal is to become a Nationally Board Certified Literacy Teacher.
