Kwtay Calvin is a 2025-2026 Teach Plus Illinois Affinity Group Facilitator and reading specialist at Mitchell Elementary School in Dekalb, Illinois. She is a member of her school’s leadership team and school improvement team. Kwtay received the Comunidades Latinas Académicas con Visión de Éxito (CLAVE) Doctoral Fellowship at National-Louis University for Latinx and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color scholars and was co-facilitator of the teacher union’s Black Educators Affinity Group. She is a mentor with the Dr. LaVerne Gyant Alumni Mentoring Program for students in Northern Illinois University’s education college. Kwtay earned her AS from Kishwaukee College, BS in elementary education from Northern Illinois University, MEd in reading from National-Louis University, and EdD in reading, language, and literacy from National-Louis University.
