Clarissa Riojas is a 2020-2021 Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow who is in her eighth year as an English teacher at Cathey Middle School in McAllen, Texas. Clarissa has served as the English Department Chair, created curriculum as a member of the district curriculum writing team, and has participated on the Joint Professional Consultation Committee and Site Based Decision Making Committees. Clarissa serves as the Vice-President of her local union, the McAllen American Federation of Teachers and was a 2020 New Leaders Council Fellow. She currently serves as the Chapter Co-Director for the NLC South Texas Frontera chapter. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in English Literature and Mexican American Studies.
