Sharon Collins is a 2026 Teach Plus National Teacher Policy Cabinet Member and an 11th and 12th-grade mathematics teacher who teaches Advanced Placement Calculus AB, Advanced Placement Precalculus, and Statistics at New Heights Academy Charter School in Manhattan, New York. She is the inaugural Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics Coordinator at New Heights Academy.

Sharon has served in a number of school leadership roles throughout her career. She was the high school mathematics department chairwoman at both New Heights Academy Charter School and Bronx Preparatory Charter School, where she also served as an 11th and 12th-grade team leader and Advanced Placement Coordinator. At I.S. 183, she served as President of the School Leadership Team.

Sharon was selected as the recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in the Mathematics category for New York State (2023), featured in Teach For America New York’s Alumni Spotlight (2022), and profiled in Chalkbeat’s “How I Teach” series on outstanding American educators (2018).

Sharon began her teaching career in New York City as a 1999 Teach For America corps member and has remained a classroom teacher ever since. She is currently a Math for America Master Teacher and holds National Board Teaching Certification. She also serves as chairwoman of Teach For America New York’s Alumni Association Board.

She earned her BS in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College, where she graduated summa cum laude, and her MS in Environmental Engineering from Columbia University in the City of New York, where she studied as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow.
