Kayla Crockett is a Teach Plus National Teacher Policy Cabinet member, she is an educator at Valdosta High School in Valdosta, Georgia, where she teaches American Government and AP African American Studies. In addition to her teaching role, Kayla serves as the Content Lead for the American Government, guiding curriculum development and instructional strategies in the subject.
Kayla previously worked as the Graduation Coach, where she played a key role in supporting students’ academic success and helping them navigate everyday life while staying on track toward earning their high school diplomas.
Before entering the field of education, she gained valuable experience working with the Department of Corrections as a Corrections Officer at Valdosta Transitional Center, the Department of Community Supervision as a Felony Probation Officer, and as a Family Preservation Case Manager for the Department of Family and Children Services. These roles provided her with unique insights into the challenges students and families face, shaping her commitment to education and student advocacy. She brings a rich blend of real-world experience and academic expertise to the classroom, inspiring students to engage deeply with history, government, and culture.
Kayla holds a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Columbia Southern University. Kayla earned a Master of Education in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Humanities from Grand Canyon University.
