Dane Butts is a high school EL teacher at Warren Central High School on the east side of Indianapolis. In this role, Dane is responsible for creating curriculum, organizing testing accommodations, monitoring student progress, collaborating with general education teachers, providing professional development, and communicating with the parents of a growing population of English learners. In addition to teaching English as a New Language, Dane serves as the EL team leader, mentor teacher, and assistant boys’ soccer coach. He has collaborated with a district team to bring sheltered instruction for English learners to Warren Township. Before moving to Indianapolis to join Indianapolis Teaching Fellows, Dane taught English at a bilingual immersion school in Madrid, Spain. Dane graduated from Indiana University with a BA in Spanish and a BA in Political Science. He holds an MS in International Commerce and Policy from Valparaiso University and an MA in Teaching from Marian University.
