Marwa Elmasry is a 2022-2023 Teach Plus Illinois Policy Fellow and a World Language and Bilingual-Arabic teacher at Oak Lawn Community High school in Oak Lawn. She advocates for linguistic justice where the languages and cultures of minority students are represented positively in the curriculum to elevate the self-esteem of minority students and increase cultural competency among both students and staff. Marwa was named the 2022-2023 Illinois Bilingual Teacher of the Year. Marwa began her teaching career in Illinois as an Arabic instructor at DePaul University and has since taught it at various levels and in various settings. She earned her MEd in Curriculum Studies from DePaul University.
