Farida Mama

Farida is the founding Fifth Grade Mathematics teacher at UP Academy Dorchester. She was a 2011 Massachusetts TFA Corps Member and began her career teaching at the Lilla G. Frederick Middle School in Dorchester, MA. There, she grew passionate about building conceptual mathematical knowledge in Middle and Elementary School students. She is committed to creating a rigorous and joyful classroom environment in which students engage in high level math discourse. Farida holds duel certification in English as a Second language and Grade 1-6 Mathematics. Farida has worked as a Corps Member Advisor – coaching and providing professional development for Teach for America’s incoming Corps Members. Additionally, Farida is a recipient of the Sontag Prize in Urban education which recognizes excellence in education. Farida earned her B.A. from the University of Connecticut, and her M.Ed. from Boston University.
