John Fredericks is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Senior Writing Fellow and is the 9th and 10th-grade ELA and AP English Literature teacher at West Tallahatchie High School in Webb, Mississippi. He serves as the Program Coordinator for the West Tallahatchie School District’s Formal Teacher Mentorship Program and is a Teach Plus Mississippi Policy Fellowship alumnus. John was named 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year for the West Tallahatchie School District and was given the Academic Excellence Award by the Mississippi Teacher Corps in 2021. John began his teaching career in Mississippi as a part of the Mississippi Teacher Corps in 2019 and serves as the Executive Acting Director of the Mississippi Delta Equitable Education Project. He earned his BA in English from the University of Mississippi, his MA in English from the University of Nevada, Reno, and his MA in Teaching from the University of Mississippi. John’s work has been published in The Sun-Sentinel.
