April Geyer is a 2026-2027 Teach Plus Michigan Policy Fellow and special education teacher for students in grades 6 through age 26 at Oasis Alternative Education and Mount Pleasant Community Education in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. She supports at-risk youth and young adults with diverse learning needs, while also mentoring incoming special education teachers. Previously April spent 12 years as an elementary special education teacher, supporting students in cognitive impairment, resource, and behavior support programs. She was named the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club’s Golden Apple Award recipient (November 2024) and recognized as a College Football Playoff Extra Yard for Teachers Honoree by Central Michigan University Athletics and the College Football Playoff Foundation, receiving a classroom grant (September 2020). April earned a BS in education with endorsements in history and special education from Central Michigan University. She is currently completing her MA in reading and literacy at Central Michigan University.
