Chelsea is a 2022-2023 Teach Plus New Mexico Policy Fellow and a 1st grade teacher at Vista Grande Elementary School in Rio Rancho Public Schools in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She is passionate about providing all kindergarten and 1st grade children an equal opportunity to learn how to read and write through science-based lessons in phonics and phonemic awareness to prepare them to meet rigorous college and career-ready standards in the future. Chelsea has previously served as team leader for 1st grade. She began her teaching career in Tucson, Arizona, and has been teaching kindergarten and 1st grade for ten years. Chelsea became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2017 in the area of language arts. She has a BA in Early Childhood Education from the University of Arizona and an MEd in Early Childhood Education with an endorsement in reading from Northern Arizona University.
