Michelle D. Griggs is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus Illinois Affinity Group Facilitator. She is a 6th grade English language arts/social studies teacher, Student Intervention Process Team Member, and Homebound Tutor/Mentor at Carl Sandburg School in Freeport, Illinois. Michelle has overseen several afterschool programs, including the Boys and Girls Club of Stephenson County and Freeport Middle School student groups. She began her career at Carl Sandburg School as a self-contained classroom facilitator in 2017 and later taught in a Behavior Specialist Classroom for 7th and 8th graders. She earned a BA, as well as a master’s in curriculum and instruction with a focus on multicultural education and diversity, from Illinois State University, Bloomington-Normal. Michelle earned a master’s in special education, with a teaching certification in K-12 cross-categorical, from the University of Missouri, St. Louis and a master’s in humanities with a teaching certification in English language arts, from Grand Canyon University.
