Juan J. Hernandez is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow. Juan is a 1st grade bilingual education teacher at Dr. Martha Mead Elementary School in San Antonio, Texas, where he also serves as the science campus facilitator. He also serves as a mentor teacher for undergraduate students who are seeking careers in education. Juan has taught various elementary grade levels in Dallas and San Antonio and has served as grade level chair and on several PTA boards. He was voted as his campus teacher of the year while in Dallas, and has been recognized by First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Mrs. Erica Castro as part of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics National Recognition. He graduated from Texas State University with a BS in interdisciplinary studies, received his MEd in bilingual education from Southern Methodist University, and completed his PhD in school improvement at Texas State University.
