Charlene Highsaw is a 2023-2024 Michigan Teacher Leadership Collaborative Member and a social studies teacher at Renaissance High School in Detroit, Michigan. Charlene is actively involved in many school committees and is committed to bridging educational gaps, improving student achievement outcomes and building school and community relationships. Charlene serves as an instructional coach to student interns and new teachers, and she helps to coordinate Senior Class activities. Charlene was recognized by the Michigan RoundTable as Diversity and Inclusion Teacher of the Year in 2007. Charlene is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and was selected to participate in a three year professional development initiative called EPIC Histories (Equality & Power in Civics and History). She is a current member of the National Council for History Education. Charlene has a BS in secondary education from Kentucky State University, an MA in education from Marygrove College and a post graduate certification from John Hopkins University in school administration and educational technology.
