Avery Hower is a 2025-2026 Teach Plus Pennsylvania Policy Fellow and a 9-12+ life skills support teacher at Jim Thorpe Area High School in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. She is the high school’s Special Education Department Head and district’s Transition Coordinator. In addition, Avery is the Peer Buddy group advisor, assisting students with exceptionalities in maintaining meaningful friendships with peers, as well as coordinator for the JT Olympic Games, which include track and field events for students with exceptionalities across Carbon County. Avery earned her BS in early childhood education (preK-4) and special education (K-8), MA in special education with a concentration in applied behavioral analysis, and Special Education Supervision certificate from East Stroudsburg University. She also earned a Principal’s certificate from American College of Education.
