Lawnya Hughley is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus Michigan Policy Fellow and a 5th-grade math teacher leader at Detroit International Academy for Young Women in Detroit. She focuses on teaching and coaching teachers to use the district’s curriculum. Lawnya was the teacher of the month at Mann Learning Community in 2017 and 2018. Throughout her 20 years in education, Lawnya has been a 3rd grade lead teacher, a K-8 master teacher, a testing coordinator, and a WIDI administer teacher. She earned a BS in criminal justice from the University of Detroit Mercy, a teacher certificate in elementary education, and an MA in educational leadership from Concordia University.
