Mayan Jarnagin is a 2023-24 Teach Plus Texas 2nd Year Policy Fellow. Mayan is an 11th grade AP English Language and Dual Credit Rhetoric and Composition Professor at Harmony Science Academy in San Antonio, Texas. He is the Reading Language Arts (RLA) Department Chair and Campus RLA Instructional Coach. He focuses on the training and development of high quality educators through the engendering of rigorous curriculum and data-driven, student oriented, instructional methodologies. Mayan has been a Professional Learning Community Leader for the past six years, as well as a mentor teacher for over eight years. Mayan has also held Professional Learning Community Cabinet and Senior Cabinet positions during his tenure as PLC leader, researching and suggesting district policy changes designed to enhance teacher and student performance. Mayan proudly served in the United States Air Force on Active Duty from July 1997 to June 2009, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant, and deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He has a Master of Arts in Literature from the University of Texas, San Antonio, a Bachelor of Science in English Literature from Excelsior University, Albany, and an Associate in Applied Avionics from the Community College of the Air Force.
