Jes Ellis is a Teach Plus Maryland Teaching Policy Fellow. She teaches literacy and social studies to 3rd and 4th graders at Thomas S. Stone Elementary School in Mount Rainier, Maryland, where she chairs the 4th grade department and the environmental green team. A teacher since 2003, Jes has taught 2nd through 6th grades in five states and seven different schools, from rural Vermont to Northeast, D.C., in schools with as few as 80 and as many as 1,200 students. After spending four years at the Expeditionary Learning public charter school in Washington, D.C., Jes transferred to the Prince George’s County Public School District with the mission of bringing project-based, experiential learning opportunities to children in the low-performing public schools of her neighborhood. She holds a BA in American Civilization from Brown University and an EdM from Smith College.
