Shawnice Johns is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus Indiana Policy Fellow and a 9th-12th special education community-based self-contained teacher at Bloomington High School South in Bloomington. She focuses on assisting students with transitioning to life after high school and creating partnerships and vocational opportunities for her students in her local community. Shawnice was previously a K-3 special education inclusion teacher at Templeton Elementary in Bloomington. Shawnice was named the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce 2023 Educator of the Year and awarded the 2023 Equity Spotlight Award from Monroe County Community School Corporation. Shawnice is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She received a BS in psychology from Tuskegee University and an MEd in education, specializing in special education, from Purdue University Northwest.
