Barbara Johnson is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus California Policy Fellow. She is a middle school teacher, student council advisor, and social committee head at Chualar School in Chualar, California. Barbara worked with the teacher cohort at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as an assistant to the director and is a lifelong member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society, receiving its Service Key award (2005). She began her career at Monterey Peninsula Unified School District (MPUSD), teaching grades 2-5, and has taught classes at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in the Teacher Education Department before working at Chualar School, teaching grades 3-8. Barbara received her BA in political science at the University of California, Irvine, a Clear Multiple Subject Credential and master’s in curriculum and instruction from Chapman University, and Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificates from the University of California, Santa Cruz extension.
