Jose Rivas

Jose Rivas is a 2025-2026 Teach Plus Leading Edge Educator Fellow. He teaches digital art, AP physics, electronics, and product development to 10th, 11th and 12th graders at Lennox Academy in Lennox, California. Jose is mentor and advisor for STEM teams including Solar Boat, Architecture, Construction and Engineering (ACE) mentoring, and Invention Convention. He is a content creator for Infiniscope in partnership with NASA and Arizona State University. Jose received the Shell Lab Challenge Award (2024) to transform how science is taught in his school and was honored with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching (2019). He is an alumnus of the Teach Plus California Emergent Bilingual Change Agent program and Teach Plus California Policy Fellowship. Jose holds a BS in mechanical engineering, MA in secondary education, and is a certified transformational teacher leader from Loyola Marymount University. His op-ed on the need for greater diversity in STEM education was published in CalMatters
