Katie Girard is a Teach Plus Commonwealth Teaching Policy Fellow and a 5th grade teacher at Alice Beal School in Springfield, MA. Katie’s teaching journey began in 2002 in a small rural preschool program. She has gone on to teach in urban and suburban school settings in kindergarten through 8th grade classrooms focusing on literacy and project based learning, as well as facilitating opportunities for teachers to collaborate. Katie served as an elected member of the Longmeadow School Committee, where she worked to create policy that supported teachers and students as schools evolve to meet the needs of the 21st-century learner.
