Walter Kirby is a 2025-2026 Teach Plus Pennsylvania Policy Fellow and math teacher, specifically in Advanced Placement Precalculus, at the Academy at Palumbo in Philadelphia. He implements inquiry- and problem-based learning principles to increase equity and achievement in math classes. Walter also coaches the school’s robotics team, mentoring students in how to build, code, and drive robots. He has taught Algebra I and geometry before advocating for his school to offer Advanced Placement Precalculus. Walter is seeking his National Board Certification. He earned his BS in mathematics secondary education from Temple University and MA in mathematics curriculum and instruction from the University of Texas at Arlington.
