Walter Kirby is a 2026-2027 Teach Plus Pennsylvania Senior Policy Fellow and math teacher, specifically in Advanced Placement (AP) Precalculus, at the Academy at Palumbo in Philadelphia. He implements inquiry- and problem-based learning principles to increase equity and achievement in math classes. Walter also coaches the school’s robotics team, mentoring students in how to build, code, and drive robots. He has taught Algebra I and geometry before advocating for his school to offer AP Precalculus. Walter passed his National Board certification in Mathematics Adolescence and Young Adulthood (2025). He earned a BS in mathematics secondary education from Temple University and MA in mathematics curriculum and instruction from the University of Texas at Arlington.
