Joe Leibson is a 2022-2023 Michigan Collaborative Teacher Leader and 3rd-8th grade Spanish teacher at Birmingham Covington School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He is a Better Together coach, a district effort to bring DEI and character education under the same umbrella. As part of his school’s and district’s diversity committees, he facilitates community panel discussions. Joe was a culturally responsive teaching coach and among four district representatives on the Oakland County Equity Council. Joe was the 2019 Diversity Champion at Birmingham Covington School. He is an at-large delegate on the Birmingham Education Association executive board. Previously, he taught 6th grade in Honduras, and worked for buildOn, an organization that builds schools in developing countries. He earned his BA in English and his MA in Foreign Language Teaching from Michigan State University in East Lansing. He originally earned his teaching certificate from Antioch University in Santa Barbara, California.
